4th Annual Silicon Valley Latino Leadership Summit
Saturday, May 11, 2013
Stanford Faculty Club, 439 Lagunita Dr., Stanford, CA 94305
“Empowering Latino Leaders through Inclusion and Social Responsibility”
Es Tiempo, LLC. and Hispanic-Net are proud to announce the fourth annual Silicon Valley Latino Leadership Summit (SVLLS). The SVLLS will bring together 250 leaders in business, government, education, and diverse industries throughout the United States, including MBA students and selected high school students, for a one-day conference at the Stanford Faculty Club at Stanford University.
We are pleased to announce that this year’s Keynote Speaker is Arturo Vargas, the Executive Director of National Association of Latino Elected Appointed Officials (NALEO) and the NALEO Educational Fund. Vargas’ message on public leadership and civic responsibility sets the tone for the conference this year. NALEO is the nation’s leading nonprofit organization that facilitates the full participation of Latinos in the American political process from citizenship to public service.
The summit includes keynote speakers, presentations, and panel discussions to motivate, empower and inspire attendees to recruit, nurture and mentor future Latino generations.
Following the opening keynote address, the morning plenary consists of experts in the field of social media will discuss the significance of gathering and analyzing data for leadership.
Film Producer, Cheyann Reagan, showcases an excerpt from Off and Running, a new comedy web series that explores the breaking of stereotypes.
In the second half of the summit, Award-Winning Actor-Writer-Director-Producer Rick Najera leads the audience in a lively discussion about education, civil rights and Latinos in Hollywood.
This year we also have the great honor to present awards to two outstanding Latinos for paving the Latino future. First, Henry Cisneros will be presented with the 2013 SVLLS Latino Pioneer Leadership award for exceptional civic leadership. Cisneros served as the first Hispanic-American mayor of a major American city and later became the 10th Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Second, Aida Alvarez will be presented with the 2013 SVLLS Lifetime Achievement award for her numerous outstanding achievements, such as being the first Latina and Puerto Rican to hold a United States Cabinet-level position.
Our afternoon plenary will discuss the evolution of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and how they can facilitate professional development and networking, focusing on recruitment, business growth and opportunities for the next generation.
We are excited to announce that Mr. Carlos Orta, the CEO of Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR) is showcasing the Insider Game II. The documentary is a sequel from the first film, Insider Game, which captures a group of Hispanic leaders at important crossroads. Following the film, Orta engages invited corporate board members and the audience in discussing insights and best practices from the Insider Game II.
Our closing keynote address will be presented by the Honorable Joaquin Castro. Castro was recently elected to the 20th Congressional District. At the 2012 Democratic National Convention, he introduced his brother Julian Castro, the convention’s keynote speaker.
Thank you for your continued support. Last year’s conference was an outstanding success! As always, we have allowed various networking opportunities throughout the summit. This is your chance to talk to top executives and prominent academic leaders to make those contacts you have been waiting for. You will not want to miss this event.
